In an amazing move the Amarillo Independent School District has approved free meals to all students effective immediately, including non-AISD students.  Breakfast and lunch meals will be free to students, regardless of income, for the remainder of the school year. Students, both on campus and those who are remote learning, can receive a free breakfast and lunch from their home campus.

Meals will be served during the scheduled breakfast and lunch times on campus, those students learning remotely can pick up a breakfast and lunch meal Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. No additional paperwork or documentation is required for students to pick up their own meals, however  students are asked to go through the cash register as a way to continue tracking food allergies. Parents will need the following to pick up the free meals for their children with one of the following:

Local School Library Card.

School Enrollment Letter.

School Progress Report.

School Food Service Department Letter.

The AISD press release stated parents must show documentation each time to receive the meals.

Monday through Friday, parents can pick up breakfast and lunch from Austin Middle School, Caprock High School, Eastridge, Emerson, Humphrey’s Highland, Ridgecrest, Rogers, San Jacinto, South Lawn and Wills Elementary. Non AISD students will have to be present when picking up meals. Ten schools in the district are also providing free meals to any child in the community less than 18 years of age, even if they aren’t a student with AISD.

The United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture which allows schools to continue summer eating programs funded this throughout the end of the school year.
