Have You Ever Been To The Railroad Museum In Amarillo?
Every time I turn around, it seems I'm discovering a new "hidden gem" in Amarillo. I was blown away the first time I visited the Air and Space Museum; and just recently, I discovered the existence of yet another museum.
This one is all about Amarillo's railroads.
The railroad actually has a pretty impressive history in Amarillo. I'm reminded of it every day and night when the trains pass by my house between Amarillo and Canyon.
What I wasn't aware of, is the museum that exists to celebrate that history. They do so with not only railroad equipment, educational tours, and old train cars on display--but models as well.
This weekend they are having their spring open house. It's chance for you to go out and see everything that the museum has to offer, and enjoy some special events.
The open house will be at 10 AM tomorrow (5/8/21). There will be vendors on hand, and activities for "kids of all ages." You can find out more by following this link.
They're even bringing out a historian to speak about the US DOE white train that they have at the museum. That part I find particularly interesting because I have no idea what the US DOE white train is.
I'm assuming it has something to do with the Department of Energy, but I could be wrong.
Also, a local air museum will be on site. While the event page doesn't go in to much more detail than that, I'm hoping that's a reference to our local Air and Space Museum.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If you're bored in Amarillo, you're just not looking hard enough. We really do have something for everyone.
