The most recent meeting of the City Council in Amarillo is getting some attention over one particular conversation that was held. The topic? The Ten Commandments. In the meeting, it was suggested that a monument of the Commandments be placed in the new city hall. The only question I have is when does The Satanic Temple show up?

The Ten Commandments Monument In Amarillo, Texas

According to reports from KAMR, the monument of The Ten Commandments will be placed in the new city hall. Supposedly, it's going to be a gift to the city from council members. It won't cost the City a dime. No one's taxes will be going toward the cost of the monument. Council members were all in support of the idea of placing the Ten Commandments in the new city hall.

One of the council members did mention speaking with the First Liberty Institute. They're an organization that has defended several monument cases, and the hope is that they can give the council some pointers on getting the monument placed and not running afoul of any legalities. It's a brilliant suggestion considering that monuments of the Ten Commandments seem to draw a lot of protests.

When Is The Satanic Temple Going To Show Up In Amarillo?

One of the groups that are best known for how they handle protesting monuments is The Satanic Temple. They're notorious for battling monuments of the Ten Commandments. Two of the most notable instances were in Arkansas and Oklahoma. The monument in Oklahoma was still a hot-button issue earlier this year.

Their method of protest wasn't to try and simply get the Ten Commandments monuments removed. Instead, they chose to fight to be able to install their own monument. As you can imagine, this didn't make anyone on team Ten Commandments happy, especially considering The Satanic Temple's monument was of Baphomet. Their point was that if one religion is represented in public spaces, then all should be allowed to be represented.

It will be interesting to see if there is any pushback to the potential placement of the Ten Commandments monument. There are four congregations of The Satanic Temple in Texas, so it isn't outside the realm of possibility that this could land on their radar.
