Amarillo’s October Surprise – Why You’ll Need Your Summer Gear!
It has been a weird few months when you think about the weather we've had in Amarillo. We've broken records, tied records, been through heat waves, and have been keeping our fingers crossed for cooler weather. Unfortunately, it looks like those chilly fall temperatures we've been hoping for may not be in a hurry to get here. We might be in for a month of above-average temperatures.
From Summer Temperatures To A Cold Front That Lasted One Day
This week has already been off to a wacky start. We started out with summer-esque temps, then had a cooldown on Tuesday, and now we're back to shorts and sandals weather. It's aggravating, but we do live in the Texas panhandle. Anything is possible and you rarely get what you want, when it comes to the weather.
The National Weather Service Amarillo put out some really "interesting" information; if by interesting you mean depressing or frustrating. According to them, we could see an October that gives us above-average temperatures for the month. I wouldn't put away the summer clothes just yet.
What Do The Wizards At Farmer's Almanac Have To Say?
Hoping that getting a second opinion would work out more in our collective favor, I checked with the Farmer's Almanac. They pretty much corroborated what the National Weather Service was saying earlier today. The only difference involves the end of the month.
According to Farmer's Almanac, we could see snow at the end of October. We'll start the month with summer-ish weather, and end it with snow. The weather in the Texas panhandle will do whatever it pleases. Don't put away your summer clothes just yet, and make sure you know where your winter stuff is. We may skip fall and head straight into winter this month if you believe the Farmer's Almanac.
