American Horror Story got plenty of road to reinvent itself with an additional two-season renewal, but don’t expect any major shakeups in Season 7. Not only are series staples Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters confirmed to return, but producers promise yet another mystery theme (ugh) for Season 7.

Ryan Murphy himself confirmed at the TCA press tour that Season 7 has already locked down Paulson and Peters for Season 7, which will again be set in a modern context. And despite what we were mercifully promised at the last TCA tour, FX boss John Landgraf seemed assured of another guessing game for the theme (via EW):

It actually will be shrouded in super secrecy. Ryan has yet another really innovative idea for how to do something fresh and different with the franchise that audiences haven’t seen before, and there’s a marketing promotional hook around that.

Granted, Murphy seemed less sure of that in a separate conversation:

I don’t know [if we’ll keep it quiet]. Last year was successful. I don’t know if we’ll do it again. I think maybe we’ll release some of it earlier than we did. But I just started writing it, I haven’t even cast it yet — except for Sarah and Evan.

Last we heard, Murphy claimed Season 7 “does have a big hook behind it,” one that might feature the return of several characters from American Horror Story: Freak Show. Additionally, a separate upcoming season might bring together Murder House and Coven characters, to say nothing of whatever “secret season” Murphy has reportedly been writing, or the ocean theme teased after American Horror Story: Roanoke.

We’ll likely hear a bit more in the coming weeks, but are we ready for another round of insanely cryptic American Horror Story  teaser? Who else might return from past seasons?
