I stumbled upon a holiday surprise on my way to work this morning. Instead of bringing joy and happiness to my life, it felt more like finding a piece of coal in my stocking. If you're traveling on Bell in Amarillo today, be prepared for some headaches. Some surprise construction popped up last night.

Construction On Bell Is Going To Cause Delays, Headaches, And Frustration

Be ready for it. People are going to be in a pretty sour mood as they travel on Bell today. The area affected by the sudden appearance of orange cones is south of I-40. In some places, all of Bell is reduced to two lanes of traffic.

If you're heading southbound on Bell, you'll start seeing signs about an upcoming lane closure just after the I-40 bridge. It continues until the area around 34th. Know that you will be required to keep merging lanes until you're reduced to one southbound and one northbound lane.

Take A Deep Breath, Pay Attention, And Drive Safely

Construction is a major headache in Amarillo. It seems like everywhere we go there are traffic cones and lane changes waiting for us. Projects seem to spring up out of nowhere and last long enough to turn our hair grey. All the more reason you need to be aware of what's going on.

If you're on Bell, be prepared to slow down. Know that you're not going to get where you want to go as quickly as you want to get there. Pay attention to what people around you are doing. Inevitably there will be those people who make merging lanes into a game of chicken. Don't be that person. Watch for signs and merge ahead of time if you can.

Watch out for crews while they're working, and slow down. Everyone wants to make it home to the people they love at the end of the day. Hopefully, this construction project will be over as quickly as it sprung up.
