Brad Pitt Says Angelina Jolie Compromised Kids’ Privacy, Files Legal Documents
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reached a custody agreement in November, according to Jolie's reps, but not all of the dust has settled regarding the events in their rancorous divorce. The Allied actor claims Jolie "appears to be determined to ignore even agreed upon standards relating to the children’s best interest," and says she has put their kids' privacy at risk by making sensitive information public during their legal proceedings.
In a memorandum to Pitt's request to seal divorce documents pertaining to the former couples' custody battle, he and his legal team reportedly listed the reasons why they do not want certain information shared. In legal documents obtained by People, Pitt says Jolie "exposed the children by making public the names of their therapists and other mental health professionals." The memorandum goes so far as to say that Jolie has "no self-regulating mechanism" when it comes to keeping sensitive information about their six kids from the public's access.
Jolie's perceived lack of discretion includes the re-release and filing of legal documents containing private information: "Although she had already made them public, she did it again."
On December 7 Pitt requested an emergency hearing to have the divorce documents sealed, People reports, but a judge denied it because the filing didn't meet the correct requirements to seal them. Jolie's attorney Laura Wasser says Angelina isn't opposed to sealing the documents for privacy's sake, but they opposed it because Pitt didn't consult with Jolie's team prior to requesting the emergency hearing. Now, Jolie and Wasser can respond to Pitt's latest legal request before a judge takes action.
The filings are only the latest in what's turned out to be a bitter divorce process for the stars of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and By the Sea. In late November, the FBI cleared Pitt in an investigation into an incident between Pitt and his 15-year-old son Maddox that allegedly occurred on a private plane days before Jolie filed for divorce in September.
"The FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation," the Agency said in a statement. "No charges have been filed in this matter."
