Bryan Fuller Officially Working on Anne Rice’s ‘Vampire Chronicles’ TV Series
Disappointed though we were to see Bryan Fuller leaving both Star Trek: Discovery and American Gods, the writer-showrunner has a habit of amazing rebounds. Now, Paramount TV reveals that Fuller is consulting on Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles TV adaptation, and may even stay on to showrun.
Keep in mind that Fuller still has Apple’s Amazing Stories to produce, but a Hollywood Reporter conversation with Paramount TV head Amy Powell revealed the former Hannibal showrunner’s involvement with yet another blood-soaked property. The eleven-book Vampire Chronicles landed at Paramount in April – shepherded by Christopher Rice and his mother Anne – and may feature Fuller in a central role:
We bought 11 novels as part of the Vampire Chronicles initiative. Bryan Fuller is working with Anne Rice and [her son] Chris, who are writing the pilot. We are hoping he chooses to stay on and potentially showrun.
UPDATE: Christopher Rice now confirms Fuller “has become a member of the creative family working to bring the story of the vampire Lestat to television”:
The series adaptation will center around Lestat de Lioncourt (once played by Tom Cruise), and was said to mirror Game of Thrones as “a faithful rendering of this material.” Prior adaptations include 1994’s Interview with the Vampire (also starring Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst) and 2002’s Queen of the Damned.
We’ll hopefully hear more before long, but is Bryan Fuller’s attachment to The Vampire Chronicles a hopeful sign, or another exit waiting to happen?
