Do You Know What This Building Was? See Incredible Transformation
Things are constantly changing in Amarillo. Ask anyone who has lived here for longer than a year, and they'll tell you. I've only been here for five, and it blows my mind how much this city has changed in that small amount of time.
That being said; do you know what this building used to be? It's an incredible transformation.
Scarborough Specialties in Amarillo Has An Interesting Home
The building on the corner of SW 16th Avenue and Harrison in Amarillo that bears the name Scarborough Specialties hasn't always been the home to a custom promo items shop. It actually has quite the history.
You have to go back to the middle of the twentieth century, long before Scarborough Specialties.
Amarillo's Fire Station No. 2
The building that is there now was built in the late 1950s, according to the information I was able to dig up.
This building gave it a look that was more modern for the time. You can see the bays where the trucks would park. Notice the driveway leading to the street; it disappears.
Today, It's Scarborough Specialties, INC.
At first glance, you wouldn't believe this building used to be the No. 2 fire station. But look closer, and you can start seeing it.
Those big windows looking out onto the street look familiar? That's where the doors for the truck bays were.
Remember the driveway that I said disappeared? It's no where to be found. Now, there's a ramp, sidewalk, lawn, and shrubs where it used to be.
It's fascinating to look at the two photos side-by-side and see just what has changed. Amarillo has a lot of history hiding in plain sight.
