One of the biggest events in the Amarillo area every year is 24 Hours In The Canyon. It's the only event of its kind in the nation. It is a 24-hour road and mountain bike event held at Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

The event raises money for the 24 Hours In The Canyon Cancer Survivorship Center. If you're planning on venturing out to the canyon this weekend, and you aren't a part of the event, there's a lot you need to be aware of.

The most important thing for non-participants to know is that the park will be partially closed off to you while the event is taking place. Don't show up with a carload of people expecting to have free rein of the park.

If you aren't participating in the event and are thinking of taking the family out, you'll have access to the:

  • Visitor Center
  • Trading Post
  • CCC Trail

Also, there will be road closures you need to know about. The closed-off areas will only be accessible to the participants of the weekend's event. You can find out more by checking the park alerts at the Palo Duro Canyon State Park website or by checking their social media.

Palo Duro Canyon Trail & Weather Update

A bit of great news came out today from Palo Duro Canyon State Park on social media regarding the trails and this weekend. They announced that as of today, trails are open again. Earlier this week, they were closed after the rain we received in the area. You can see the update on their Facebook page.

This is a major event in the area. For those participating, it should be another great year. For those not participating but still planning on heading to the canyon, be aware that you might have to adjust your plans.
