Please don't take offense to anything you read here. I'm just an old guy with old opinions, and none of them really matter.

Once upon a time in Texas, big hair was the thing. The higher the 'do, the closer to Jesus—or something like that—they'd say. We even had one very iconic Furr's lady whose hair was stacked so high it looked like a bear cub was sitting on her head.

Fortunately, hairstyles come and go, and yes, I've fallen victim to a couple of questionable trends myself.

Cowboy Boots And Bare Legs Just Look Silly To Me

So what is the Texas big hair of 2026?

Well, this particular trend has been going on a lot longer than that, but I finally have to say it out loud: cowboy boots with shorts or a skirt look silly.

Now, full stop. I'm a guy who wears cargo shorts with combat boots. I look silly. I'm completely aware of it.

In my defense, I don't do it for looks or style. I do it because I need to protect my feet, occasionally traverse some pretty rugged terrain, and somehow stay cool at the same time. I wasn't always like this. I originally started wearing combat boots to protect a broken toe, and they just kind of stuck.

So now that I've put myself on blast, let's get back to the cowboy boots.

Ladies, no matter what age you are, cowboy boots with exposed legs always look a little bit like you're trying on your dad's boots.

And we know most of you don't actually need to be wearing them.

It's an outfit that says, "I might ride a horse later, but right now I'm getting margs at Chimy's."

Oh yes, the roast will continue.

Nothing says "I'm trying to keep cool" quite like catching a breeze on 80% of your legs while simultaneously roasting both feet inside two leather furnaces.

Cowboy boots and a mini skirt? That's a dress code best described as Daisy Duke meets the livestock auction.

It's also one of those outfits where the top half and bottom half appear to have received invitations to completely different events.

Again, I'm an old nobody who doesn't know anything about fashion, so wear whatever makes you happy. I'm certainly not qualified to stop you.

But I've always found the look hilarious.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping it country. Wear the hat. Wear the denim. Wear the boots.

Cowboy boots with pants look awesome, but somehow, nothing looks more city-country to me than cowboy boots with a skirt or shorts.

It just screams:

"I've never actually seen a cow up close, but I do watch Yellowstone on the reg."
