Amarillo tends to see all sorts of different events that raise money for charity or non-profit organizations, and sometimes those events are extremely enjoyable to participate in. However, there is one that requires you to do a little training, but it might be one of the coolest ones we have.

If you enjoy riding a bicycle, have a competitive spirit, and want to raise some funds for a good cause, I've got the event for you.

The Top Of Texas Heritage Ride Is Coming

It's the inaugural year for the Top of Texas Heritage Ride, and it's going to be one of the coolest things we've seen in Amarillo in a while. The race is organized by the Community Engagement Unit of the Amarillo Police Department, and all the funds raised are going to a singular charity.

One Chair At A Time will be the beneficiary of the funds raised. They help improve the quality of life for adolescents and young adults who have physical disabilities by donating sports wheelchairs and providing opportunities for them to play in adaptive sports.

What Will The Ride Consist Of

That kind of depends on which ride you want to jump into. They have four different rides that you can choose from, depending on your experience level. The first is a 10-mile ride that will take you through The Big Texan, Slug Bug Ranch, Hodgetown, and a whole lot more. Next up is a 20-mile ride that adds on places like Route 66 and the Amarillo Country Club to the aforementioned places.

Getting into the super advanced rides, the 37-mile option will lead you even further out towards the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, the Downtown Church District, and more. The final option is a whopper. A 57-mile ride awaits you that will take you outside the city to get a view of Amarillo from a different perspective.

Untouched by Time: The Historic Homes of Polk Street Then & Now

You know you've entered Amarillo's historic district once you hit the red brick roads of Center City. A unique reflection of past and present, Amarillo's historic homes seem to pose pristinely against the curb.

These large, thoughtfully designed historic homes are part of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Amarillo. But most residents will agree that nothing quite tops the staggering royal beauty of the grand homes of Polk Street. Built by Amarillo's founding fathers, the looming estates of South Polk are a sight to behold.

Check out these stunning comparison photos that show how these gorgeous structures have remained nearly untouched by time.

Look at How Amarillo's Old Route 66 Motels Looked Then & Now

The heyday of the Mother Road may be long gone, but would you believe that there's still plenty of the old motels where many a weary American family rested their heads during their interstate travels?

You won't believe some of these are still standing, much less still alive and (wait for it..) kickin'!
