Amarillo Ministry Leader Deported Again After ICE Arrest
A lot was made of the ICE deportations that were happening in Texas and across the country several months ago, and with good reason. There were raids, aggressive tactics to find those who were here illegally, and sadly, even some profiling.
When it came to their mission of deporting those who weren't here legally, they had success when it came to the definition of what they were doing. Well, it's not in the news as much any longer, but a deportation happened here in Amarillo that surprised some.

Who Is David Alcocer-Escamilla
Alcocer-Escamilla was the founder and head of NOW Ministries here in Amarillo. It was designed to help those who struggled with addiction and recovery, and in general, it was a very good program that meant well.
Unfortunately, we found out that Alcocer-Escamilla was here illegally, as he was arrested yesterday.
Not His First Time
The wild part of all of this was the charge he was hit with. Re-entry of removed aliens was what the cause number stated. Apparently, Alcocer-Escamilla has been deported from the U.S. twice before.
The first one was back in May 2014 when he was residing near Brownsville. Authorities ultimately deported him back to Mexico. In October 2019, he was amenable to removal from the country again, and they placed an immigration detainer on him.
What Happens With NOW Ministries
That becomes a big question at this point. There is no word on whether or not it will continue without Alcocer-Escamilla in place.
The program offers 9 and 15-month recovery programs for addicts. The ministry is also an Alternative Housing Program.
