Amarillo Needs Votes to Win Historic Route 66 Mural
One thing that has always been unique to Amarillo is its art. There are some incredibly unique pieces that are placed all over the city thanks to the mind of Stanley Marsh 3. Cadillac Ranch, the big leg, the random street signs.
There are all the different murals around the city, some that perfectly define the culture of what Amarillo is, some just being random murals. Either way, it's a huge piece of Amarillo culture. I mean, we even have the Hoodoo Mural Festival, where we end up with even more murals each year.
A New Mural Coming To Amarillo?
Because of Amarillo's love for murals, plus being such a hub on Route 66, we could find ourselves with a brand new mural that only a few cities will have. Something celebrating Amarillo's love for art, but also paying homage to our history with Route 66.
Nine other cities are up for one of three murals to be painted by Coca-Cola in celebration of America turning 250 years old. Abilene, Beaumont, Brownsville, Bryan, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Odessa, Tyler, and Wichita Falls are the others in the running.
How Do We Win The Mural
The mural will be custom-painted to reflect community identity and local history. There isn't a one-size-fits-all mural. It'll be something that will be added to the city forever and be a reminder of how far Amarillo has come.
In order to win the mural, it's up to you. You get to vote, and the top three cities will receive a mural. To vote, just go here.
