Think You’re Tough? Amarillo’s Polar Plunge Is Back This Winter
The Winter Olympics are right around the corner, and the Summer Olympics aren't far behind it. One of the exciting things about the summer games for Amarillo is that a few of the events will be taking place less than four hours away from us.
Canoe Slalom and softball will take place in Oklahoma City, so the Summer Olympics will basically be in our backyard. Prior to that, though, a different type of Olympics is being held right here in Amarillo, and it's only for the brave.
Special Olympics Texas Polar Plunge
If you've ever been one of those crazy people who love jumping into ice-cold water, then this is for you. I've never understood WANTING to do it, but hey, to each their own, right?
The Special Olympics Texas will be holding a Polar Plunge at the Amarillo Town Club on January 31st at 9 am. Yes, this is your chance to be one of the people who go running and jumping into icy waters and see how long you can withstand the cold.
Why Are They Holding The Event?
It's all in the name of raising funds for the Special Olympics athletes. Every dollar earned from the event will go into the athletes, allowing them to be able to train and compete year-round. It also goes toward health and inclusion programs for those with intellectual disabilities right here in Amarillo.
There are a few ways you can participate in the event. You can be one of the plungers, buy tickets to the event to watch while you stay warm, or you can donate to the cause. All of those things can be done by going to their website.
