Winter Slams Amarillo With Heavy Snow and Dangerous Cold
Well, we've been waiting for it, and it appears that winter is finally rearing it's head here in Amarillo and the entire Texas Panhandle. We've had some teases over the last couple of weeks with colder weather and promises of snow, and one of those days, we actually got a bit of snow.
However, this one is promising to be different...very different.

Snow & Dangerously Cold Temps
Friday appears to be the beginning of it, where we will see a balmy high of 31 degrees. PM snow showers are in the forecast, and they won't be ending for a while. Overnight, the temperatures will plummet to an overnight low of one degree...yes, ONE degree. Snow accumulation overnight is expected to be between 3 and 5 inches.
The fun continues Saturday when we have an expected high of 9 degrees. Snow accumulation? Another potential 3 to 5 inches. Yes, we are looking at a little winter wonderland coming our way, not to mention the frigid temperatures that are coming with it.
How To Prepare For Winter Weather
If you need to go outside, bundle up. You want to expose as little skin as possible in conditions like this. Don't stay outside for prolonged periods of time. Make sure your home is weatherproofed. Turn off sprinklers if you haven't already, and make sure outdoor faucets are covered up.
Also, be prepared with flashlights, keep your phones charged at all times, and have plenty of water on hand. Make sure you have enough food that you can eat without needing gas or electricity in case of those services going down. Have a battery-operated radio for updates, should power go out.
