Amarillo is famous for multiple things, but one of the main claims to fame is Cadillac Ranch. This art installation has been a part of Amarillo's history since 1974.  For many, it is a must-stop while traveling on I-40.

What Is Cadillac Ranch and Why Is It Famous?

Cadillac Ranch is an art installation that was created over 50 years ago, and visitors to this popular tourist spot have continuously spray-painted the cars. However, overnight, Cadillac Ranch became a tribute to the late Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, while speaking at one of his college tour stops.

When Did the Charlie Kirk Tribute Take Place at Cadillac Ranch?

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, David Castro and Cristen Winter Huber made a trip to Amarillo and repainted the cars red with Charlie Kirk written on them, and then left a sign that said, "This art project is a one-week tribute to the life and memory of Charlie James Kirk."  It also asked visitors to leave words of gratitude, unity, and prayers. The duo shared their photos on Facebook. One of the comments in the Facebook post said it took from 10:30 pm Saturday to 7:30 am on Sunday to finish. See their photos here.

The Cadillac Ranch tribute to Kirk began to spread before his nationwide memorial went live. Some of the messages Castro and Winter spray-painted on the cars in white across the red were:

This is a Turning Point.
Well done good and faithful servant

Many of these sentiments were also expressed during the Charile Kirk memorial service on Sunday, September 21, 2025. However, one of the most poignant moments from Kirk's memorial service came from his wife, Erika, who emphasized forgiveness.

That young man … I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it's what Charlie would do. - Erika Kirk

How Long Will the Charlie Kirk Tribute Last at Cadillac Ranch?

The Cadillac Ranch tribute has given those who stop at one of Amarillo's biggest tourist spots a chance to leave their sentiments about Kirk. However, in a few days, the red will be gone, and the Cadillacs will once again be covered in multiple colors and tags.
