Amarillo has already started its celebration of Route 66 this year. Part of the celebration is honoring and remembering Route 66. Something very cool that Route 66 collectors and coin collectors are going to want to get their hands on is the Route 66 Passport

What is the Route 66 Passport?

The Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau created the Texas Route 66 Passport Program. Visitors can explore all the iconic landmarks, towns, and attractions all along the Texas portion of Route 66. As they stop at all these participating locations they can collect these really cool commemorative coins.

The coins are amazing but that's not the coolest part. The coolest part of the Texas Route 66 Passport is that it is designed to look like a classic record complete with a record sleeve. When you pull out a genuine vinyl record, you will see slots cut out and that's where you place all the commemorative coins you have collected.

Not only that you can find QR codes included that have self-guided tours and even a Spotify playlist, all the festival information, and even the map.

If you're ready to start collecting these awesome coins and visiting some amazing Route 66 landmarks and attractions, it's time to hit the road. When you stop at the designated locations, just show the staff your passport and they will give you the coin that matches the location.

Russell's Travel Center is a hidden gem on I-40 W just past the Texas/New Mexico State Line.

Ranchotel: The Forgotten Landmark of Old Route 66 in Amarillo, Texas

The Ranchotel, located at 2501 W. 6th St., is a product of Route 66's heyday.

When Americans first began long-distance automotive travel, they typically stayed in hotels or camped beside the road. In response, clever entrepreneurs began to build what were called tourist courts. The Ranchotel is one of these.

It was built in 1940 and until recently, it was considered one of the best preserved examples of Route 66's tourist facilities. It was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 and was well maintained until 2020.

Even now, in spite of the building's fading beauty, there is still the nostalgic air held by many a historic landmark.
