We as functioning adults end up with a ton of documents in our life that contain personal information.  Information that if found by someone else could destroy our lives.

Identity theft is a really serious issue that could happen to anyone at any time.

When it comes to your personal papers, documents, medical bills, credit cards, or old tax documents, how do you get rid of them?

What about your bank receipts?  Some have your entire account number written on them.

  • Do you just tear them into a few pieces and throw them in the trash?
  • Do you use that cool little roller that covers all personal information, then toss it in the trash?
  • Do you burn your items (safely)?
  • Do you have your own personal shredder at home?

All of these are good ideas, but some of them still leave you open to identity theft. Plus, most personal shredders only shred a few papers at a time and one envelope at a time.  Then it gets stuck and you have to take it apart and clean up the mechanism.  It's a pain in the hind end.

I am paranoid when it comes to my personal documents.  Even if just one document gets into somebody's hands, my entire financial security would be destroyed.

That's why for me personally, I collect all my important documents in a big box all year long and patiently wait for this important day.

Amarillo Crime Stoppers and Student Crime Stoppers Shred It Day!

I gather up my cardboard box of important documents and travel to their site and drop them off knowing that my personal information will be destroyed.  They give me the peace of mind that I wouldn't have by just throwing my stuff away.  They have professional shredders on site that will destroy all that in minutes.

Shred It Day is Saturday, April 15th from 10 am - 2 pm.  The event will take place at Document Shredding and Storage (DSS), 2727 SW 45th.  Just look for the big round building!  You can drop off up to 4 bags or boxes on-site.   DSS is a certified company and one of the biggest in Amarillo that can offer safe, secure, shredding. This is a great way to keep your information safe and clean out your document storage.

Don't forget to bring a bit of cash to donate to Student Crime Stoppers in exchange for getting your documents shredded.  It's one of the best investments in protecting your personal information.
