In the last couple of months in Texas, the conversation about SNAP benefits has been very controversial. In some cases, Texans feel that benefits not only should be increased, but the requirement should be more lenient to single homes. In some circumstances, there are Texas who feel that it is extremely unnecessary to even have the SNAP benefit program and it should be taken away altogether.

Most Texans are aware that on September 1 over 100 different laws were placed in the great state of Texas and Texans just wanna know, what does that mean for the SNAP program? SNAP also known as a supplemental nutrition assistance program is a program that provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford nutritious and essential meals for their family and well-being. According to CBS, News, Boston, the rules of SNAP benefits, for some people would become a lot stricter for SNAP users. For example, if you are an individual who does not have children and you are from the ages of 18 to 50 you must work at least 80 hours a month, or at least be enrolled in a training or education program to now receive SNAP benefits.

The age requirement for these particular benefits will increase from 50 to 52 on October 1. If you are a veteran without a home or even an adult from the ages of 18 to 24 that has been aged out of foster care you’re exempt from the new requirements and these requirements will be in effect until 2030. But the real question is what does this mean for Texans, will Texans need to follow the same regiment? The eligibility for Texans is a little different, adults from the ages of 18 until 49 with no children in their home can still get benefits, but only for three months in a three-year period, and could possibly even be longer if the person works at least 20 hours a week or in a training job or program.
