Neighborhood Scout is a website that is constantly keeping tabs on cities and neighborhoods across the country. The gather data on reported crimes, and use that data to break down which areas in a city are the safest.

Amarillo is one of the cities they keep tabs on, and their research has left us with some interesting facts besides just which neighborhoods are the safest.

For instance, Amarillo is safer than a mere 5% of U.S. cities. Another way to put it is that Amarillo scored a 5 on their scale, with 100 being the safest. Yet another way of putting it is that, according to them, you have a 1 in 120 chance of being the victim of a violent crime in Amarillo.

I may not be able to run faster than all 119 other people, but I like my chances.

Using the old saying "don't shoot the messenger" here seems a bit insensitive, so I'll just point out that this isn't my opinion. This is all based off of NeighborhoodScout's findings.

According to research done by NeighborhoodScout, the top 10 safest neighborhoods (and it's not that surprising) are:

  2. Bushland
  3. Quail Creek
  4. River Falls/ Palisades
  5. South Georgia Place
  6. Southpark Windsor/ Estacado
  7. Colonies/Greenways
  8. Rockwell Place
  9. Rockwell Place North
  10. Juilliard

So, if you're wanting to live in a safe neighborhood in Amarillo, you're going to need to either move as far away from everyone else as possible or fork over some major dough.

Maybe both.

Is Amarillo Really That Dangerous?

It's interesting to see the way things look when it's all done by numbers. It doesn't paint a very pretty picture.

However, I don't constantly look over my shoulder in Amarillo, and I definitely don't live or hangout in any of those neighborhoods.
