When it comes to getting from one place in Texas to another, you need to understand that it can take some time. Texas is a big place, and if you don't have a reliable vehicle it's easy to feel landlocked in whatever town you're in. That is unless you lived somewhere that had other transportation options. This is where Megabus comes in. Unfortunately, Megabus is no longer servicing routes in Texas.

What Is Megabus?

Megabus is a company that has double-decker buses running routes between cities in various places in the US. Texas had routes that operated between Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Fares were relatively cheap, and the buses had wi-fi and restrooms.

Getting between some of the bigger cities in Texas without having to deal with the traffic in my vehicle sounds like a dream. I wish we had something that could get us from the panhandle to somewhere else that didn't involve using my car or an airplane.

It's sad to see something like this happen. We don't have a lot of options for getting from one side of the state to the other. We keep hearing rumors and people suggesting that Amtrak expand its service in the Lone Star State, but nothing much has come of it yet. Instead, we're seeing options disappear.

Why Did Megabus Close Up Shop In Texas?

According to reports, it's all due to a bankruptcy filed by Megabus's parent company. As part of the bankruptcy, Megabus announced route changes across the nation. The big noticeable one was that all service would be ended in Texas.

I'm not sure where this leaves us. I know there are alternatives, like Greyhound, but I'm a fan of options. Plus, there's the fact that not everyone services every place. You might have one option in one city, and it's not an option in where you want to go. It can turn into a mess.

Hopefully we see some changes in the future to how we get around the Lone Star State. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that passenger rail will be something we see that can take us from one end of the state to the other.
