We are less than a week from Spring Break in the Texas Panhandle and although we aren't Daytona Beach, Disney World or Cozumel, we do have a lot of fun things to do on that wonderful week off from school.

Our local treasures always have some fun events going on that you and the entire family can enjoy.

Palo Duro Canyon

Don't forget we have the amazing PDC to go and check out.  Go take a hike and have a picnic in the Canyon.  Enjoy the scenery and have fun.

They have a few events going on during the week.

Monday, March 12th - Sunset Hike 7-9pm - This 1 1/2 mile hike around the Berry Loop Trail as the sun sets.   Meet at the Chinaberry Day Use Area and arrive at the park entrance by 6:30pm.  Dress for the weather, wear hiking appropriate shoes, bring plenty of water and a flashlight.

Wednesday, March 14th

Tot Trek - 11am - 12n

Bring out your tots and have some fun in the Canyon.  Let them hear a funny tale about the Old West, then take a 1/2 mile hike on the Paseo del Rio Trail with a park interpreter. Meet at the Chinaberry Day Use area.  Dress you and your tot in hiking appropriate shoes and bring plenty of water.

Although this hike is mainly for toddlers and young children, everyone is welcome.

Junior Ranger Program - 1-2:30pm

Bring the kids out and let them become junior rangers.  They can learn all about PDC, it's resources and they will get to take part in a mini service project.  They will earn a sleeve patch.  Meet at the El Coronado Lodge visitor center.  Dress for the weather and wear hiking appropriate shoes.

This is for ages 4-12

What's the Scoop on Poop?  3-5pm

Animals leave signs everywhere.  Learn about how you can tell what animals roam PDC.  From their nests, to footprints, fur or feathers.  Learn from the evidence animals leave including their poop!  Or a nicer word, their scat.  The park interpreter will take you on an easy hike to find out how much you can learn from animal droppings.  Meet at the Mack Dick Group Pavillion, and make sure you are at the park entrance no later than 2:30p.  Dress for the weather, wear appropriate shoes for hiking, and bring plenty of water.

All these activities are free with admission into Palo Duro Canyon.

Admission: $5 per adult, Kids 12 and under get in for free.

Make time to take the kids to swim on the WT Campus. The pool is located in the Virgil Henson Activities Center

The library always has some fun things going on. With different branches all over the city you’ll be able to find some fun activities for the kids at the library on Spring Break.
