Shakehands Pong Is Putting Yellow City On The Table Tennis Map
If you haven't seen any of the posters posted on social media about Shakehands Pong, you're missing out. They have the coolest event posters in town.
Seriously, someone should make a collage or a quilt...or something.
Not only do they have the best posters, but they've grown from a small group to hosting regular tournaments before Covid hit. It's like fight club, without Brad Pitt or as much punching.
There's a couple of things coming on their calendar too. First, they're kicking off 2021 with a fresh tournament. Metal Night is coming on Feb 20. You can click on this link for more info.
They do mention that masks will be encouraged, and social distancing will be enforced.
Then next thing their website lists as coming up is a big tournament in April. They're calling it the Pong City Open 2021.
Their website states that the event is in the process of being sanctioned by the USATT (I told you there's an association for everything), and will bring in top players from the region.
This will be the first pro-level pong tournament in Amarillo if they pull it off.
Another interesting aspect of this club, league, gathering of like-minded persons is their dedication to being inclusive. Several times on their website they mention how important it is to them to include everyone. They even have a dedicated "Inclusion Statement" page on their website.
As we head into 2021, I'm looking forward to getting out and trying new things. I spent most of 2020 isolated in a radio studio thanks to shutdowns and regulations; and I'm ready to get out.
