Six-Year-Old Girl Becomes Youngest Ever to Qualify for National Spelling Bee
In general, most youngsters like six-year-old Lori Anne Madison are squarely focused on toys and cartoons. But Madison recently became the youngest person ever to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the contest’s 87-year history.
According to the precocious little girl’s mother, the first book Madison ever read was ‘Hop on Pop’ by Dr. Seuss at the age of two. Now she’ll be competing against kids twice her age in the national contest starting today.
Madison played off her record-setting accomplishment with confidence rarely seen in a six-year-old. “I’m not scared. Definitely not scared,” she said. “I’m not really excited … I’m more, like, it’s fine.”
When she grows up, Madison wants to be nothing less than an astrobiologist who discovers life on other planets. And she’s also planning on swimming in the Olympics for good measure. Follow your dreams, kiddo!
