\An ad popped up on Facebook recently that featured a person standing in a field holding up a drone. The text above the photo said "Apply now for the 2021-2022 school year." The ad was for a charter school in Canyon, and they were advertising that you can get a diploma and fly drones at the same time.

There are a lot of options when it comes to education. There's traditional public schools, private schools, charter schools, and home schooling just to name a few. All of them have their own pros and cons.

It's just a little shocking to see drones and high school mentioned in the same sentence. Maybe I'm just out of the loop.

Honestly, that's not that bad of an idea. Drone photography is being used in a wide variety of industries, and in order to fly one and make money doing it you need to be FAA certified.

With this, you could graduate with what I think would be a somewhat marketable skill. At the very least, it gives you a decent way to make some money.

Digging through the Premier High School - Canyon website you'll find out that the school exists primarily for those who want something different from traditional public school. One of more intriguing aspects is the CTE courses they offer.

CTE stands for career and technical education. This gives basically gives students job training so they can start a career right out of high school.

I didn't hate school, but it definitely wasn't the highlight of my youth. I don't look back on it fondly. A part of me wishes that I would have had access to something like this. I probably wouldn't have struggled so much.

They also have a campus in Amarillo.
