Well, they couldn’t wait eight years to reopen The X-Files, just to leave off on that insane cliffhanger, right? FOX finally got their act together, preparing a proper revival for Mulder and Scully with an expanded-order eleventh (and final?) season.

Whether or not American Idol jumped the gun to plot a reboot so soon after its “Farewell Season,” the point may be moot. Reports indicate that neither NBC nor FOX were able to negotiate a deal with the studios behind Idol, likely shelving any revival for the foreseeable future.

It wasn’t terribly surprising that FOX would say goodbye to American Idol after so many years, but word that NBC might look to revive it alongside The Voice came more unexpectedly. Now, FOX is reportedly bidding for the rights to bring American Idol back on its own, almost exactly as we remember it.

It hasn’t been terribly long since FOX said goodbye to American Idol, what with the whole “reality competition” craze having appreciably cooled since the early 2000s regardless. Still, leave it to NBC to potentially drag Ryan Seacrest back to the stage for a revival season, throwing The Voice into question in the process.

Oh boy. #PeakTV has far from outpaced the core broadcast networks altogether, but darn it all, if mainstream TV doesn’t occasionally rely on laughably dated spins of a classic tale. This time around, FOX has in mind to re-envision the classic King Arthur legend as (what else) cop drama Camelot, with some surprising twists.

And so, it begins. FOX already got the ball rolling on its new 2016 series with the order of 24: Legacy, and now a number of other reboots have taken hold. Not only has the new take on The Exorcist gotten an official greenlight, so too has the Lethal Weapon reboot, Lord and Miller’s time-travel comedy, a baseball drama and more.

If Seth MacFarlane’s live-action presence in movies like A Million Ways Ways to Die in the West didn’t thrust the Family Guy creator into the spotlight, how about his own live-action FOX series? We’ll find out, as MacFarlane boldly goes with a new series order for a sci-fi dramedy set among the stars.

The Simpsons has had plenty of chances to experiment in its 27+ years, but will venture surprisingly modern (as in to the second) with an upcoming “live” segment animated by motion-capture. A first look at the new clip has arrived, but will The Simpsons ever stage an entirely live episode?

Seeing as we’re going to ride this train of rebooting old movies for TV until kingdom come, FOX’s Lethal Weapon keeps right on chuggin’. Following the announcement of Damon Wayans’ Murtaugh, and a number since, Rectify star Clayne Crawford has joined the Lethal Weapon LAPD as our new Martin Riggs.

Twenty-seven seasons in, The Simpsons still needs to stay topical, an especially difficult feat given the animation process’ long lead time. Well, consider The Simpsons more relevant than ever, up to the moment even, as May will see the long-running FOX staple experimenting with a live segment.

A comparatively short run and split mythology-standalone balance gave an inkling FOX’s X-Files revival might not offer the kind of closure fans have hoped after twenty years, and it may be longer yet before we have any real answers. X-Files creator Chris Carter confirms the revival series will end on a cliffhanger, but what format might pick up the ball down the line?
