There has been a lot of talk recently about new laws being passed in Texas. Several controversial bills have been introduced in the Texas Senate and House of Representatives. One battle you may not have heard of being fought at the Texas capital is over one of our favorite foods. Legislators are arguing over steak.

States are notorious for having an "official" everything. In Texas, our state flower is the bluebonnet. The Northern Mocking Bird is our state bird. A battle is being fought in Texas over the official state steak.

There are two camps in this fight. One side believes that we should rename the New York Strip. The other camp believes the strip is an inferior cut of meat and that Texas deserves better. The battle is being fought between the State Senate and the State House.
The Senate is on team "rename the Strip." The House has decided to back the tomahawk steak as its champion.

It's been a wild year in the Texas legislature. There has been everything from requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in classrooms across the state to banning all THC products in the Lone Star State.

September could see a lot of things change in Texas in a lot of ways. When it comes to the "State Steak", it could make restaurants all over Texas treat a cut of beef the way the Fed treated the Gulf of Mexico.
