Yes, Poland Has Their Version Of Forrest Gump And He's Coming To Amarillo
Tomasz Sobania is the self-proclaimed "Forrest Gump of Poland." It has nothing to do with shrimp boats or tech company stocks. It isn't because he's a ping-pong prodigy. It's because of the other thing that Forrest did from the time he first heard Jenny scream the most famous line from the film.
He is a 26-year-old marathon runner who often tackles extreme distances during his runs. For instance, he ran 950 miles from Poland to Rome and visited Pope Francis. He ran from Poland to Greece and back, covering a total of 2,250 miles. Now you get why he's the self-proclaimed Forrest Gump of Poland. In his most recent epic run, an iconic Amarillo landmark is going to be in the spotlight.
Tomasz Sobania Begins 80th Marathon Run In Amarillo This Week
Tomasz is almost halfway through his most recent extreme run. This time he's traveling across the U.S.; all 3,300 miles. This week, he hits his halfway mark in Amarillo. To kick off the second half of his trip, he'll be starting at the most iconic landmark in Amarillo; Cadillac Ranch.
For this run, he's running a marathon a day. That comes out to 26 miles a day until he has crossed the entire United States. It's impressive, especially considering he's crossing the Texas panhandle in winter. There's no telling what kind of weather he's going to encounter before he hits the New Mexico line.
Tomasz will be setting off from Cadillac Ranch on Wednesday, December 11 at 11 AM. If you want to see him off, wish him well, or maybe run along for a bit you are more than welcome to join him.
Run, Tomasz, run!
