So let's face it, the Summer is almost over.  School starts in less than two weeks.  Parents are celebrating, kids are whining because they don't want to go back to school.  However, there are a few days left to enjoy going to bed late and sleeping in, but there are things that need to be done.  So here are the top 10 things to do before school starts.

Make Homemade Ice Cream

Yeah I know it sounds a bit weird, but there is something about homemade ice cream on a hot day.  Plus for some reason homemade ice cream is so good and it just makes you happy.

Watch the Sunset

Since it is still summer and you might have the option of staying up late.  Go find a perfect spot, grab your sweetheart, or your family and just go watch the sunset.  Texas has some of the best sunset.

Go to the Lake

Make sure you get this in before the summer is over.  We have so many great lakes in the area.  Plus, they are all awesome right now because of the rain.  You don't need a boat to go to the lake.  Just go jump in the water, grab your fishing poles and have a good time.  Take a tent and camp out by the water.

Go visit Palo Duro Canyon

We have one of the greatest pieces of nature in our backyard.  If you haven't been to PDC in awhile go check it out while you still can this summer.  Go on one of the many hiking trails.  If you are feeling adventurous, take a hike up to the lighthouse.  Just make sure you are prepared before you do, it's a long hike.  Plus, make plans to stay and check out Texas in the Pioneer Amphitheater to wrap up your day.  Just a reminder, the last performance is on Saturday, August 15th.

Take a Random Weekday Off and Spend it with your kids

Just take one day off and spend it with the family.  Wake up and cook breakfast for them, go to the park, play board games,  and have some fun.  Don't worry about work, don't worry about chores, just have fun.

Have a Water Balloon Fight

When was the last time you had a water balloon fight?  What are you waiting for, let's have one!  Grab some balloons a water hose and a adapter.  Fill a hundred balloons and get ready to have some fun!

Go Volunteer

Take a day and give back.  The High Plains Food Bank, Snack Pack for Kids, Salvation Army, Eveline Rivers, these organizations always have some volunteer opportunities.  Grab the kids and take them to volunteer for a day.  You'll teach them a lesson and they will probably have a good time giving back.

Do Something Adventurous

Why not go zip lining?  Talk about a ton of fun.  If it had not have been for my 8-year old.  I would have never tried zip lining.  He had to have an adult go with him.  So I sucked up my fear and we had a blast.  There's a great zip line at the entrance of Palo Duro Canyon.

So what kind of plans do you have for the next few weeks?  Do you plan to do something fun and amazing before school starts?
