Vince Vaughn Joins Dwayne Johnson’s Wrestling Movie ‘Fighting With My Family’
Fighting With My Family, the movie starring Dwayne Johnson, written and directed by British comedian Stephen Merchant, and based on a documentary about a family of WWE wrestlers, is maybe the strangest movie in the works right now, besides whatever fresh hell Adam Sandler is cooking up for Netflix. Today, Johnson announced that none other than Vince Vaughn would be joining the cast of his new movie.
Johnson announced via Instagram that he’s very excited to welcome Vaughn, who will be playing “a man who I know all too well and those of you who follow wrestling history know well too. The 80's wrestling star who squandered his money and opportunities because he didn't have the capacity to handle his fame. One bad decision after another, but these days he owns his past actions and does everything he can to give back to the wrestling business he loves.”
Some deep-cuts wrestling knowledge (aka a bit of googling) leads one to think that Vaughn, based on this description and some prior knowledge of who knew the family this film is based on, could be playing Jake “The Snake” Roberts, a wrestling star who was big in the ’80s and, among other things, carried around a giant python as part of his act. If they’re going for comedy with this — and it’s Dwayne Johnson and Stephen Merchant, so — Vaughn playing a dude who carries around a giant snake as, like, his thing, would probably work just fine for this.
