The Daily Mail in London weighs in:

  • Money that was tested included staphylococcus aureus, which can give people serious food poisoning, and klebsiella pneumoniae, which can cause pneumonia.

According to Dr Peter Ender, he said: 'Banknotes are widely used and each is exchanged many times. If some are contaminated with bacteria, there is potential to spread these organisms from person to person.'

From now on, I'll be using hand sanitizer after handling what little money I have.
