Watch This Video of Cadillac Ranch Before All of the Paint
The vast majority of us have been to Cadillac Ranch. Pretty much everyone has seen a photo of the painted classic Cadillac cars and the layers of paint that cover them. I found a video on YouTube that shows the iconic cars before they were covered in graffiti by tourists from around the world.
The video was taken from an episode of On The Road which was hosted by Charles Kuralt. The clip in this video was taken in 1975. Cadillac Ranch was built in '74.
Cadillac Ranch Looks a Lot Different Now
The cars aren't covered in graffiti yet. They still have windows. Even the tires still looked like actual tires.
Another thing you immediately notice is that there is more than just dirt surrounding the cars. There's actual stuff growing near the iconic row of cars.
It looks a lot different than it does now.
Now, the "cars" sit in a giant and otherwise empty dirt lot. There are food trucks now, and there's even Cadillac Ranch swag you purchase. You can purchase your Cadillac Ranch swag at the official Cadillac Ranch Store.
Now There's Cadillac Ranch Merchandise, Spray Paint, and Food Trucks
You can keep up with all the latest happening out at Cadillac Ranch by following them on social media. Here's a link.
When you head out to Cadillac Ranch these days, now you can purchase Cadillac Ranch merchandise and even spray paint right there in the field, next to the row of cars.
Things have changed a lot at Cadillac Ranch over the years. One thing that hasn't though, is the discussion of what it all means and maybe that's the real reason behind it all.
