What Is the Hottest Trend in Cosmetic Surgeries?
While you may think breast augmentations and nose jobs are most popular among vain people with cash to blow on plastic surgery, the latest cosmetic enhancement trend may surprise you.
It’s chin augmentations.
According to new numbers from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were more than 20,000 chin implants done on men and women in 2011 — a 71 percent jump from the year before. What’s more, that number is higher than the combined total of breast implants, Botox and liposuction procedures.
Why the dramatic increase? Blame it on modern technology.
“The digital world has made a huge difference in how people see themselves,” said Dr. Darrick Antell, a New York-based plastic surgeon. “It used to be that you’d get in front of a camera and take a straight shot, but now it’s different on these devices.”
Dr. Anita Sethna, assistant professor of otolaryngology at the Emory Facial Center in Atlanta, said video chatting is also causing some people to view themselves differently than they did before, adding, “Constantly seeing your own image staring back at you certainly does give one pause to assess all aspects of your image.”
