Well who actually knows how 262  head of cattle, at five hundred plus pounds each disappear from a Texas Panhandle Ranch? Someone definitely knows, so that kind of rules out alien abduction, but it still makes one think.

The stories of UFO’s and cattle over the years has been constant and quite mysterious. Little is actually known of the mysterious cattle mutilations that rocked ranches in Colorado, New Mexico and other Midwest and Western states. But no-one really believes that something unearthly occurred in Perryton. Here is what we do know:

Authorities in the Texas Panhandle are offering $11,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons who stole 262 head of cattle off a Lipscomb County ranch.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Ranger Ben Eggleston said rancher Bob Adcock has added $10,000 of his own money to the reward.

Operation Cow Thief was originally offering a $1,000 reward.

The $11,000 will be paid to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest or indictment of the person or persons responsible for the crime.

Eggleston said all information is kept confidential, and tips may be provided anonymously by calling 888-830-2333.

On February 18, 2020, Adcock reported the steers and heifers missing from the Bill Merydith Ranch located at 14135 County Road U in Perryton.

He said most of the cattle were black, but some were red and other mixed colors.

The livestock weighed between 500 and 550 pounds each. All are branded with a Lazy 11 on their left shoulder.

“Any theft, but especially one of this magnitude, can just be devastating to a rancher,” Eggleston said.

“If you know something about this crime, please come forward so we can help him recover those animals.”

Perhaps someday just like in Close Encounters of the Third Kind a large mother ship will land and the cattle will be returned, along with Amelia Earhart, Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa. Just maybe. Could be a new movie too, Close Encounters of the Herd Kind.
