Amarillo Gas Prices Beginning To Drop
I remember when I first started driving. If gas was over $1.10 per gallon, I felt like I was going to go broke. Now, it's not uncommon to see prices touching $3 or more in some areas.
Amarillo was starting to really creep up that way, but now we may just be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
According to a daily survey by GasBuddy.com Amarillo gas prices fell by a touch over 3 cents per gallon the past week. I know, you're thinking to yourself "it's only 3 cents, settle down.". But this could be a sign of good things to come.
According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gallon of gas in Amarillo is currently sitting at $2.48 per gallon. When you compare that to neighboring areas, we are significantly lower. For example, Lubbock is checking in around $2.65 for their cheapest gallon of gas, a solid 17 cents cheaper.
Normally, you'd see gas prices on the rise this time of year. Things like summer vacation and family road trips have a tendency to drive the prices up a bit. Is it price gouging? No, it's just demand. The fact that those things are officially here (yes, people are going on vacation this year) coupled with the fact that prices are trending down tells us we could see gas prices get back closer to $2 per gallon faster than we may have expected.
That's not to say it won't jump back up a bit, other factors like weather do play into gas prices and we're just getting started with hurricane season. So enjoy the lower gas prices for now. The lower they go right now, the better chance we have for them sticking to lower prices as we get into the major peak weeks and months.
