Usually when a list hits my inbox, I just move past it. This one, however, is a little different from the ones I usually see. This list is Livability's Top 100 Best Places To Live In The U.S. They do it every year, and this marks the 10th annual list. Guess what?

Amarillo got a mention in this year's Top 100 Best Places To Live In The U.S.

What Makes This List So Different

The thing about this list that I actually like is that it compares cities with populations between 75,000 and 500,000. Usually when a list like this comes out, you roll your eyes because the big major cities always sit at the top. There's no surprise.

That's what makes this list so different.

Another big difference is the way they do their scoring. Instead of just listing cities from 1 to 100, cities are given a score.

So, How Did Amarillo Do?

Out of a possible 1,000 points, we scored 695. Amarillo's strengths, according to the research that was done, are housing, environment, and transportation.

The transportation one made me scratch my head a bit. When I think "good transportation," I usually don't think Amarillo. However, when I saw that commute times were considered, things made a little bit more sense.

While a lot of folks around here drive like it's their first time, it honestly doesn't take you too long to get where you're going.

What Categories Do We Need To Work On?

Our weakest categories were health, safety, and amenities...ouch.

Despite those being our weakest performing categories, we still made the list. Amarillo got a really nice write up and several of our iconic "must see" attractions got some love too.

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.

LOOK: The Enigmatic Art Oddity of Cookie Time

This quirky and whimsical place is tucked away behind a fence off US-287N and Cherry Street. While it may seem like a head-scratcher at first, you'll soon find yourself drawn to the unique and memorable displays at Cookie Time.
