The Amarillo Police Department is asking residents to be alert for a new scam, where a woman comes to your door, says she's been assaulted, and needs to come inside.

According to the APD, on Wednesday, a woman showed up on the doorstep of an Amarillo residence. She claimed to have been assaulted. Police say no injuries were visible and the woman insisted on coming inside the home.

The resident did not let the woman inside and called the Amarillo Police Department. Upon hearing this, the woman left. Officers were unable to locate her.

Police warn residents, this could be the beginning of a robbery or an opportunity to scan the home for valuables.
They also advise, if this happens to you, have the stranger remain outside and call the police department.
