An Open Letter to the Groundhog
Groundhog Day is coming up on Tuesday, February 2nd. This is the day where a furry little creature called a Groundhog pops out of hole and if he sees his shadow, we will be inundated with 6 more weeks of winter. Well I decided that I needed to have a talk with said Groundhog, so I wrote him a letter.
Dear Punxsutawney Phil,
I realize that you are a groundhog. I realize it is your job to decide the fate of winter. Each year you work for a few seconds and you decide if we will see a long winter or if we will see a early Spring. I just wish I had your job. You are revered and you have a nice set up and are well taken care of in your home of Gobblers Knob, Pennsylvania. I also know you are probably the most hated animal as well and that's a big burden to carry on those tiny little shoulders.
Here's the deal Phil. I hate winter. I cannot stand being cold. I get there are plenty of people who love Winter, I am not one of them. I need your help this year, I need you not to see your shadow when you pop out of your hole on Tuesday, February 2nd. I need you to tell me that Spring will be coming for us quickly. I need to know that the 70 degree weather will be here to stay. I don't want to hear about 6 more weeks of winter. I don't want to hear about more snow, more ice, more yuck. I need sunshine. I need warmth. I need Spring.
Phil, if you could so kindly do this for me, I would love you for at least a year. Until next year when we have this conversation again.
So, just as long as we understand each other, no more winter. Bring on Spring.
I'll be watching you on Tuesday. You better make me a happy woman!
P.S. I'll get you a treat if you bring me an early Spring
So I guess we'll find out if Punxsutawney Phil is gonna give us good news.
