The Internet Famous “Bird Wrapped In Tortilla” Is From Amarillo, Texas
The entire internet has been buzzing this week over a bird in Texas that was rescued in a very unconventional way. The rescue involved what was believed at one point to be a baby hawk and a warm tortilla. Of course, a rescue this interesting could happen in only one place; Amarillo, Texas.
The Ballad Of Tortilla Bird In Amarillo, Texas
The story broke the internet. A wildlife rescue was contacted about a baby bird that had been found by a family while they were hanging out and swimming in their backyard. The person with the wildlife rescue asked if they had put it in a box, and got an answer that no one could have ever expected. The family had wrapped it in a warm tortilla to keep it safe.
The funny thing about this story is that it could lead someone not from the Lone Star State to think that we're all walking around with a "just in case" tortilla in our pocket. Find yourself with some shredded cheese and need to make a quesadilla? Just ask the nearest Texan if you can borrow their pocket tortilla.
The good news is that the bird is safe and sound, and out of the tortilla.
Amarillo Tortilla Bird Officially Named "Taquito"
The Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center gave an update on social media regarding "Tortilla Bird". It turns out that the bird is a Mississippi Kite. The bird has a healthy appetite and is doing well. The rehabilitation center has taken to calling the bird "Taquito".
The bird will be under their care for the next couple of months and interestingly isn't the only Mississippi Kite in their care at the moment. Sounds like Taquito the Tortilla Bird is going to be just fine.
