Every year, the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo, Texas makes a celebrity goat milking contest part of their opening festivities. Representatives from TV and radio take to the stage in hopes of bringing home the coveted milk bucket trophy. For the past two years, we have been the winners in the radio division. Could we make this the third year in a row that we've brought home the big win?

Celebrity Goat Milking At The Tri-State Fair In Amarillo, Texas

The showdown, as always, happened at high noon. The sun beat down on us unforgivingly as we stood around making jokes and watching the goats being brought on stage. Three dairy goats were put in position, and the game was on.

The way it works is pretty straightforward. You have one minute to get as much milk as you can from the goat into a metal bucket. After three rounds, totals are compared and whoever has the most milk wins. Lori from 101.9 The Bull took to the stool first for Townsquare Media. She found her rhythm early and had an impressive first round.

Up next for Townsquare Media was Sarah. She's the queen of all that's digital at TSM. She's the online empress of our radio stations. She had a rough start but found her rhythm and came away with a pretty decent haul.

I, Charlie, was the cleanup batter for our crew. I took to the stool, rubbed the goat on the back, and asked her to play ball for just sixty seconds. After that, we'd go our separate ways. I found a good rhythm but had difficulty when milk started shooting all over.

I tried adjusting my grip, but it was to no avail. While still getting a lion's share of milk, I wound up wearing a lot of it on my leg. I addressed the crowd with milk running down my leg. The announcer asked how I felt, and all I could think to say was, "The breeze feels nice."

Who Won The 2024 Celebrity Goat Milking Contest In Amarillo, Texas?

Unfortunately, we came up just short of a threepeat this year. Despite our best efforts, we were bested by Cumulus Media. One of their two representatives had an amazing round, and honestly, one would be forgiven for wondering if they didn't recruit a professional goat milker just for the competition. It was an impressive sixty seconds of goat milking on their part.

Next year, plan to make it out for the goat milking contest. It happens at noon, and if you plan just right, you can hit some of your favorite fair food spots and have lunch watching us all try our hand, no pun intended, at goat milking.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
