Don’t Forget, Traffic Woes And Detours On IH-27 Start On Monday
If you think back, you might remember hearing the news that a big construction project was being planned for IH-27 as you're heading into, or out of, Canyon. The project is to widen the road from 4 lanes to 6. Heads up, the work begins on Monday and you're going to need to know how to get around the construction work while it's happening.
Construction Project On IH-27 North Of Canyon
The Texas Department of Transportation put out an update this week about the construction project to widen IH-27. According to the information they put out, the work starts on Monday when crews will be closing down the US-87 to IH-27 bridge. The good news is that this is going to be done overnight starting at 7 PM on Monday and going through 6 AM on Tuesday so they can install concrete barriers.
If you're traveling northbound in that area, you'll want to pay attention to detour signs. If you're traveling northbound, you'll need to exit at Buffalo Stadium Road/Country Club and follow the frontage roads to southbound IH-27. Then you'll turn left on to Buffalo Stadium/Country Club and follow the northbound IH-27 frontage roads to the on ramp.
Prepare Yourself, This Is Going To Take A While
Construction zones are something we all complain about in the area. It seems like there is something constantly interrupting our commute. With this, though, the end result is actually going to be something very nice. The benefit of going from four lanes to six is supposedly better safety and mobility. I'm a fan of both.
The bad news is that the project is slated to be finished, Good Lord willing, in December of 2028. Until then, there will be work happening on IH-27 north of Canyon all the way to just south of State Loop 335. It's going to take a while.
Slow down in work zones and keep an eye out for crews. As frustrating as it may be to you, it isn't worth something tragic happening. Give yourself a little extra time if you'll be traveling through the construction, and keep reminding yourself that it'll be over in 2028.
