Fall has arrived in Amarillo, Texas, bringing with it cooler temperatures. As the nights get chilly in the Texas Panhandle, we're reminded that winter isn't far away.

When it comes to the first snow to hit Amarillo in 2025, the Old Farmer's Almanac has some interesting predictions. We could be seeing snow early this year.

Why October in Amarillo Feels Unpredictable

October weather in Amarillo can feel like a roller coaster ride. Some days can feel almost spring-like. Then on Halloween, it's usually frigid and windy. There have even been snowstorms on Halloween in Amarillo.

According to the Almanac, we won't have to wait that long to see the first snow in Amarillo, Texas. We could be seeing snow very soon.

When Might the First Snow Fall?

The first period they predict could see snowfall is October 14th through the 20th. If the Old Farmer's Almanac gets its prediction right, we could be seeing snow as early as a week from the time of this writing. I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

When it comes to this winter in general, they're predicting above-normal temperatures with near-normal precipitation in our area. The snowiest times this winter, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, will be late February and mid to late March.

Prep Your Home Before the Freeze

Whether it snows or not midway through October, now would be a good time to start digging out those winter clothes. It would also be a good idea to make sure your home is ready for the winter months.

Make sure your heating system is ready to go. Make sure any pipes that need to be insulated are taken care of. Clean out the gutters, and make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working.
