The real downer is how long this closure is going to last. Weather permitting, it will be seven weeks of two-lane traffic.

Duration & Traffic Impact

This construction work is part of the latest phase of Amarillo's Georgia Street Reconstruction Project. It started in June, and it involves installing a storm drain west of Georgia Street.

The project is slated to be done in November of 2028.

While these projects do create some headaches for us as we try to go about our daily lives, they are much needed. When you're on the road and come up on one of these work zones, slow down and give crews enough room to work.

Hopefully, these projects will go quickly and won't impact our daily commutes for too long. Until that happens, be patient and remember how nice it will be when it's finished.
