Starting December 1, residents in Amarillo will have access to a free clinic on the first Saturday of every month. The goal of the clinic is to offer free monthly medical and dental screenings for children and adults.

The clinic will operate on a first come, first served basis. There is no need for an appointment. The kickoff will be held at the Regence Health Network Medical & Dental Group on South Ross Street from 10 AM - 4 PM.

According to a press release:

The Barrio Neighborhood Planning Committee and the City of Amarillo are working together to implement the 2018 approved Barrio Neighborhood Plan.  This free medical and dental clinic is one of the strategies included in this plan.

The Barrio Wellness Clinic kickoff will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Regence Health Network (RHN) Medical & Dental Group, 3113 South Ross Street, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The purpose is to provide free monthly medical and dental screenings for children, ages 6 months and up, and adults.

This clinic will be held at two sites near the Barrio neighborhood in order to educate and promote a healthy lifestyle for children and adults.  The second host site is Christian Heritage Church, 900 South Nelson Street.  This free clinic will be held on the first Saturday of each month and rotate from the RHN Medical & Dental Group to the Christian Heritage Church.

The medical and dental screenings will be done on a first come, first serve basis – no appointments needed. The following free screenings will be offered to children and adults attending this clinic:  dental, A1c (blood sugar), weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, hearing, eye, anxiety/depression, and mental health.  The City of Amarillo Health Department will conduct a rapid HIV test and adult immunizations (flu, Tdap, Pneumococcal, Hep A, Hep B, and Meningitis), if requested.  The Amarillo College Respiratory Care students will conduct pulmonary function testing to check for asthma and/or emphysema.
