From Bugs to Bats, Bikes and Hikes, Fun Awaits You in Palo Duro Canyon
We have one of the best natural creations in this country right in our back yard and most of us rarely take advantage of it, it's Palo Duro Canyon. Palo Duro Canyon is amazing and they always have fun events going on for the entire family.
Coming up this week here are the few events you can take part in at PDC.
All events are free you just pay entry into the park, $5 for adults, kids 12 and under get in free.
Tuesday, May 21st
Nature Art Walk - 2-3pm
A park interpreter will take you on a short hike and you can create a piece of art with some of the amazing things you find on the hike. Wear good hiking shoes. It's an event for kids, but everyone is invited to attend. Meet at the Chinaberry Day Use Area by water crossing 1.
Wednesday, March 22nd
A.M. Bird Watching - 7:30am - 8:30am
If you love nature and animals, especially birds, then make plans to head out to the canyon. Park staff will take you on an easy walk where you can watch and learn about some of the most amazing birds in the area and in PDC. Dress for the weather and wear good shoes. Meet at the Chinaberry Day Use Area by water crossing 1.
Canyon Driving Tour - 10a - 11:30am
Park staff will take you on a scenic driving tour of PDC. They will teach you about the history of the canyon, the geology and more. Meet at the gatehouse and is limited to the first 14 people.
Thursday, March 23rd
Lower Comanche Trail Hike - 11AM-12:30
This is a 1 1/2 mile hike where you can learn about the history of the canyon, the geology, flora, fauna and more. Dress for the weather and wear good shoes. Make sure you bring plenty of water. Meet at the Mack Dick Group Pavilion parking lot.
Junior Ranger Program - 2p-3p
This is program perfect for kids ages 4-12. They will get to learn all about PDC. Plus they get to take part in a service project and once finished they will earn a sleeve patch. Dress for the weather and wear good shoes. Meet at the El Coronado Lodge visitor center.
Friday, March 24th
Bug Hunt - 2-3p
It's a fun hike where you will get to learn all about insects, spiders and other creepy crawlies. Plus find out how they are a part of their daily lives. Wear good shoes and dress for the weather. Meet at the Chinaberry Day Use Area by water crossing 1.
Saturday, March 25th
Canyon Driving Tour - 10a - 11:30am

Going Batty! Bat Walk - 7:30p-9:30p
Get ready to have some fun bat time with lots of bat activities. The park staff will take you on a night hike looking for the amazing bats at PDC. Wear good shoes and dress for the weather. Bring a flashlight or headlamp and some water. Meet at the Wolfberry Day Use Area located at the back of the park on Alternate Park Road 5.
