How to Celebrate Earth Day in Amarillo
If you are looking for great ways to celebrate the Earth, then Earth day is the perfect way to celebrate. Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22nd, but, the weekend is full of fun ways to celebrate our Mother Earth.
Amarillo Zoo
Amarillo Zoo is hosting an Earth Day event, however it has been rescheduled to next Saturday, April 28th from 9:30a-3pm due to the weather. It's a day full of fun for the entire family. Bring the entire family out, not only will you get a tree seedling to plant, you'll get wildflower seeds as well (while supplies last). Plus, crafts including making a bird feeder, face painting, and more! Not only that, they will be doing several lady bug releases. Plus, learn a ton about butterflies.
Wildcat Bluff Nature Center
Wildcat Bluff Nature Center is celebrating Earth Day on Saturday, April 21st, 1-3pm. They have a wonderful afternoon planned with music and crafts. Plus enjoy hikes around the Nature Center. Don't forget your smartphone because you can go on a photo scavenger hunt. You and your family will enjoy learning about garden building and so much more. Don't miss out on the Wild Hanbury's, all their critters, and great talks about those creatures that slither and crawl. Not to mention, let the kids get crafty and create and awesome Earth Day poster at home and bring it to the event, and they could win a one year membership for the family!
Yoga Mat Earth Day
Come get one with nature at this unique event on Sunday, Aprill 22nd, 1-3p. Enjoy an outdoor yoga session, kid's yoga, do some therapeutic painting, plant some seeds and have a ton of fun.
Here's a fun run for those of you who hate to run 5Ks with other people. You can help out their Earth and take a run by yourself. It's a virtual run. You pick the time you pick the course, you choose. Yet, in some way you are helping out the Earth. Just by participating you'll get a beautiful medal. Let's face it you can sign up, say you're racing and still get a medal.
Cost: $18 and 15% will go to an organization called Wild Earth Allies.
So just tell every one you are running a 5K or 10K for Earth Day, then get your medal and show it off. No one says you actually have to run or walk.
I will probably spend my Earth Day in the yard, planting some flowers and taking care of the flower beds and trying to decide what kind of tomatoes I want to grow and how many.
