Over the weekend, some of those that are on WIC or SNAP in Amarillo found themselves in a very precocious spot when they went to the store.

Many reported getting their carts loaded up with all the items they needed, up to the register to checkout, on to payment, then bam. Problem.

The payment was coming up declined. Aside from the inevitable embarrassment at the checkout stand when the card didn't go through, many didn't have another method to be able to pay for their groceries and had to just abandon their cart for the time being.

Some were potentially left without food and items they needed for the evening, along with the rest of the week or however long they bought for. However, one little issue. They knew the funds were loaded on their cards.

Many immediately pointed to the federal funds freeze, but remember, that has been issued a stay for the time being so the freeze isn't on at the moment.

From what we've gathered, it seems that Texas Workforce is going through a software changeover, and that may have been the cause of the WIC and SNAP cards not working over the weekend.

It's important to note that no matter what happens with the federal funding freeze, it shouldn't impact things such as WIC or SNAP in states. That's because those are state-funded programs, not federally funded.

Anyone who may have had an issue when trying to use their WIC or SNAP card can reach out to their representatives to find out if everything is back up and running, but it does seems that this was a temporary glitch as they were switching over software systems.
