Canyon Scores Big With National Main Street Accreditation
Canyon, Texas, is one of those small towns where you want to raise your family. While some in the area have never lived in Canyon, most have ties, whether it be attending WTAMU, going to the Canyon Farmers Market every Saturday in the summer, or celebrating the 4th of July every year. When someone says small town charm, Canyon is full of that magic.
It's no wonder Canyon is getting national attention.
What Is Main Street America Accreditation?
Canyon Main Street is now officially accredited with the Main Street America organization. They have spent the last three years at an affiliate level, but they have finally achieved the top level with an Accreditation Status.
The Canyon Main Street network has worked hard this year to achieve this prestigious designation for the Canyon community,” said Canyon Main Street Program Coordinator Audry Miller. “We couldn’t have done this without the support of community partners and sponsors who believe in our mission.
What Canyon Main Street Had to Accomplish
To receive this status, Canyon Main Street had to achieve a gold standard in the following:
- Achieve outcomes in a broad-based community commitment to revitalization
- Inclusive leadership and organizational capacity
- Diversified funding and sustainable program operations
- Strategy-driven programming
- Preservation-based economic development
- Demonstrate impact and results
Canyon Main Street accomplished all of these and joined 838 other programs across the country that reached this milestone.

How Canyon Main Street Serves the Community
Their mission is simple: to improve quality of life for the citizens of Canyon and the benefit of the overall community, through the enhancement and promotion of historic preservation, restoration, business vitality, tourism, cultural and arts awareness
They plan events that bring people into the downtown Canyon Square. They apply for grants to aid in historic preservation efforts. They support local Canyon businesses and boost tourism while promoting the local arts and culture scene.
A Main Street’s work is never done, and we’re looking forward to exciting new initiatives. - Miller
