Pondeseta Brewery to Revive Canyon’s Historical Santa Fe Depot as New Taproom
Just when you thought Canyon couldn't get any cooler it does and it’s awesome.
A local Amarillo favorite is moving into Canyon, Texas. Not only are they moving in, they are moving into a historical location.
Pondeseta Brewing coming is coming to Canyon
They are moving to the home of Tex Randall and settling their new brewery location into the old Santa Fe Depot.
“It has been a goal of Trever and I to open a brewery in our hometown for almost 10<br />years,” said Kaleb West, owner of Pondaseta Brewing. “Opening our second location in Canyon allows us to grow our connection to our community, make more beer, increase our local presence, and expand our distribution footprint to more parts of Texas. We are beyond excited to grow with Canyon for years to come!
Yes, apparently Canyon has a Santa Fe Dept as well. While Amarillo has plans to turn its Santa Fe Depot into an event venue with a giant pavilion. Canyon's Santa Fe Depot will now be home to amazing locally brewed craft beer.

Canyon's Santa Fe Depot was built in 1925.
“The City has been working on this project for almost three years now, and I’m ecstatic to see this come to fruition,” said Canyon City Manager Joe Price. “This partnership between City and CEDC to welcome Pondaseta Brewing will add to the dining options and social charm of Canyon for residents and visitors alike.”
Pondeseta will be investing $625,000 into the remodeling of the Depot plus an additional $300,000 for equipment. According to the City of Canyon, as part of 380 Agreement for economic development incentives, the City has agreed to advance funds for the following items:
- Building Permit Fee waived by City
- $16,470 Asbestos abatement, structural engineering assessment and report
- $40,000 Water main extension and fire hydrant (excluding service line on site)
- $5,300 2” service line and meter connection
Canyon EDC may add an additional $200,000 in funding as well.
The new location of Pondeseta Brewing will add 20 new full-time jobs including hospitality and production staff. The retail sales from the brewery are projected to be over $1 million dollars. The renovations are expected to take 9-12 months.
